The Sons of the American Revolution has implemented new procedures for reporting Compatriot Grave Markings and requesting Compatriot Grave Marking Medals. These updates improve record accuracy and ensure that grave marking details are permanently recorded in the Patriot Records System (PRS).
This page provides an overview of the new requirements and direct access to the updated forms.
What Has Changed
Effective immediately:
Compatriot grave marking information is now recorded directly in the Patriot Records System (PRS) and can be viewed by members who are logged into sar.org. Grave marking details will appear under the Member tab in PRS.
All Compatriot Grave Markings must now be reported using the new Compatriot Grave Marking Report Form. The previously used Google reporting form has been discontinued and should no longer be used.
Requests for Compatriot Grave Marking Medals must now be submitted using the simplified Compatriot Grave Marking Medal Request Form. The older, more detailed form is still accepted, but use of the new form is strongly recommended.
Reporting a Compatriot Grave Marking

If your chapter conducts a Compatriot grave marking ceremony, the event must be reported using the official reporting form. This ensures the marking is properly documented in PRS and available for future reference.
To assist members who may later request a medal, chapters are encouraged to include the member number and cemetery number in printed ceremony programs or handouts.
Requesting a Compatriot Grave Marking Medal
Members who participate in or attend a Compatriot grave marking ceremony may request a medal using the updated medal request form. The simplified format makes submission faster while still capturing all required information.
Required Forms
Please use the following official forms for all future reporting and requests:
Both forms are also available through sar.org under the Forms and Manuals section.
Questions or Assistance
If you have questions regarding Compatriot grave marking reporting or medal requests, please contact your chapter leadership or reach out to the appropriate SAR committee representative for guidance.
By following these updated procedures, we help preserve the legacy of our fellow compatriots and maintain accurate historical records for future generations.
