Honoring the Life and Service of Roger Dean Barnhart

In Memory of Compatriot Roger Dean Barnhart (1935–2025)

The Anthony Halberstadt Chapter mourns the passing of Compatriot Roger Dean Barnhart, a devoted patriot, leader, and friend. Roger joined the Sons of the American Revolution in 1997 and faithfully served for 29 years.

At the chapter level, he served as President of the Anthony Halberstadt Chapter. At the state level, he became President of the Indiana Society SAR in 2006. At the national level, he represented Indiana as National Trustee, later serving as Vice President General of the Central District. He also served on the National Facilities Committee, leading the selection and renovation of our National Headquarters in Louisville, and on the Fundraising Committee, advancing the George Washington Endowment Fund.

Roger’s service was recognized with many awards, including the Patriot Medal, the Roger Sherman Medal at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, and the SAR Minuteman Award, the second-highest honor in the Society.

Beyond offices and medals, Roger was a passionate storyteller of Revolutionary War history, often serving as a featured speaker at grave markings and commemorations, ensuring that patriots’ sacrifices are never forgotten.

We give thanks for Roger’s life of service, his leadership, and his friendship. His legacy will continue to inspire our Chapter, our Society, and all who knew him.
